Laptop program

Students from year 4 are eligible to participate in the parent-funded 1 to 1 laptop program which gives students the opportunity to enhance their digital competency.

Parents hire-purchase a laptop through the school that their child uses on a daily basis, in class and also at home. Students continue to use the computer in Years 5 and 6 over the following two years.

Students with laptops will be covering the same core curriculum as those who are not part of the program so they will sometimes use print materials for the Guided Reading program. They will still study PE and music. However, they will have their student laptop to save their work on, potentially to take home to continue working on things they started at school if they wish, and generally enhancing their competence in working digitally.

The cost of the hire-purchase is $240 each year from years 4-6. The payment covers the cost of purchasing the computer (an ACER TravelMate B1), all the Education Queensland software including Windows and Office as well as 3 years Accidental Damage Insurance and a 3 year warranty on equipment failure. At the conclusion of the rental period, ownership of the computer passes from the school to the family on the payment of a $30 fee which covers the cost of resetting the computer to the factory settings (this is a requirement of all computer hardware which exists on our system).
