Performing arts
Rochedale South State School proudly maintains an outstanding Performing Arts Program offering multiple opportunities annually for children to participate in our school events, such as:
School musical for students in Year 6 and a junior school musical for students in Year 3.
Rochedale South's Got Talent.
Class performances on assembly.
Choral performances as part of our Junior or Senior Choir.
Band performances as part of Junior or Senior Band.
Ensemble performances for special events.
Performances typically include dance and music presentations which extend on the learning offerings normally available.
KAPOW (Kids Actively Producing Outstanding Work) Week is an annual event where students have an entire week of visual and performing arts activities as well as cultural and science learning opportunities. KAPOW has an emphasis on experiences beyond what is normally offered in the classroom environment. Our annual 'Gallery' provides an expo of student work from KAPOW Week. Gallery is run in combination with our annual Winter Carnival in August.
Instrumental Music is offered to students in Years 4 to 6. Students are offered the opportunity to hire a school instrument for one year with the expectation that they will then participate in the school Junior Band or Senior Band, or Strings ensembles, representing the school. The Strings program (offering violin, cello and double bass) runs over Years 3 to 6 while the Band program (offering flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, French horn and percussion) runs over Years 4 to 6. After the first year, students are expected to source their own instrument in order to continue their music learning journey.
Students who have their own instrument may also have the opportunity to access lessons here at the school. They are expected to attend periodic performance events both within and outside of school hours.
Rochedale South State School also has a teacher of piano and guitar who offers private music lessons at parent expense to students before, during or after school.
