At Rochedale South State School our vision inspires students to develop as “Creative, resilient, curious learners empowered to excel." Having been a school of choice since 1979, Rochedale South State School is an inclusive, interconnected learning community. High aspirations for learning, wellbeing and engagement are nurtured through our quality curriculum design and delivery. Our expert teaching team applies evidence-informed best practice to ensure that our children are provided with a diverse range of learning experiences that build confidence to achieve their personal best. As a result, student academic performance is flourishing as we continue to exceed state targets for educational achievement, wellbeing and engagement.
For a number of years, our school has been at the forefront of embedding science or reading research in our daily teaching – and this has provided students with high quality literacy instruction resulting in outstanding student achievements. More recently, a focus on mathematics has invigorated our teaching strategies, with students thinking like a mathematician. As part of our continued growth, Rochedale South State School's latest strategic plan aims to enhance student agency across the school, with authentic opportunities for student voice and choice to influence decisions about teaching and learning.
Our most recent school review celebrates our positive school culture and 'family feel'; staff members are caring professionals committed to high quality teaching and learning, and to connecting authentically with families. By partnering with our parents and carers through a range of communication platforms and school events, our staff and community elevate student progress in social, emotional and academic development to empower students to excel. An active P & C committee ensures that we offer a number of community events, such as Fun Runs and an outdoor movie night.
We develop children's personal and social capabilities through our Positive Behaviour for Learning Program. Our school puppet characters Cal and Pam model our school expectations through fortnightly episodes broadcast at assemblies and in classrooms - they are well loved by students across the school! Our four expectations include: Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be a Learner. With help from Cal and Pam, these expectations are explicitly taught school-wide, to enable all children to effectively self-manage and access classroom and playground experiences successfully.
The beautiful, landscaped grounds provide a well maintained and attractive context for learning and play. Children enjoy access to multiple playgrounds and play areas. There is a special 'Prep only' area for our little ones to explore until they are ready to join the Prep to Year 2 play space. We also work closely with our Early Childcare Education Centres to provide strong transition support for our youngest students, and we offer Playgroup to further strengthen a sense of belonging for our pre-Prep children.
Rochedale South State School is proud to offer a range of opportunities for our students to shine. Our students engage as digital citizens with a range of technologies to connect us with our learning. We have a school camping program which operates across Years 5 and 6 along with Interschool sport, and a thriving Instrumental Music and Choral program. Our Performing Arts Centre is an outstanding venue to host our many events. These events include the increasingly popular School Musical, Easter Bonnet Parade, Music Night, and Christmas Concert; along with our Whole School Assemblies, Awards Ceremonies, Year 6 Graduation and Student Leader Presentations.
As creative, resilient, curious learners empowered to excel, Rochedale South State School graduates are citizens of the future - well-grounded in reading, writing and maths, and well-rounded as engaged learners, effective communicators and caring friends.
