Rochedale South State School provides a LOTE (Chinese) program. Chinese is a compulsory subject for the students starting from Year 5. We aim to provide students with an authentic language and cultural learning experience.
Learning a second language is much more than learning simple greetings. We provide real life learning scenarios which enable students to build the capacity for intercultural understanding and the awareness of other cultures. Language learning benefits our young learners’ personal, cognitive, academic, social and cultural development. It ultimately allows them to appreciate the world from other perspectives.
Our school is committed to providing students with a diverse language learning experience. Students are engaging in ICT learning. They also enjoy participating in the arts and crafts activities, such as making paper puppets and Chinese knots, doing Chinese Kung-Fu, folk dance, paper cutting, origami, Chinese calligraphy and brush painting.
A variety of assessments, including both formative and summative, are implemented in the process of students learning. Students are assessed by their daily performance, such as ICT (Languagenut), role play, group or individual reports, assignments, presentations and quizzes.
